Such a beautiful and fondly given name he had for her- Bessie Mae. This friendship was one of a kind.
Their unique relationship and the beauty and innocence is mostly seen in 1951's A place in the sun'( Before other tragedies hit their lives, that seemed the age of innocence).
In the 40s, and the 5os, she seemed to be at her peak. Young, vivacious and also considered one of the most beautiful woman in the world,who was also a good actress- a great combo. It was before all the issues her personal life, many marriages, illnesses and so on. He seemed to be carefree to before his accident and other pressures which caused him immense pain for the rest of his short life.
Richard Burton once reportedly told Clift though she was married to him( and others), that his wife loved him more. It was a unique, beautiful friendship.
The two of them depicted the loveliness of romance so beautifully on screen. They had such convetional natural beauty and talent, it's difficult to take one's eyes off the screen when they acted together...Gosh...now I would be the age of Clift's granddaughter if he ever had one( Dame Taylor already had some grand children that age) and I say that...
Now the Grand dame of the golden age has passed on too. There ain't much of that kind of magic in the pictures( that was the more favorite word back then) any more. The Golden age when people used to tell simple stories on screen without much technical razzmatazz is indeed over.
Really don't see such poise, grace, class, natural beauty( without the help of plastic surgeries, botox, collagen etc) much anymore. Black and white pictures have a charm of their own, which can never wane for people like me.
It's really truly sad...
But the legacy lives on...More so in the hearts of true blue classic movie lovers.
