The end of an Era...but the legacy lives on

"Montgomery Clift's famous quote on Elizabeth Taylor: “You know how it is when you love somebody terribly but you can’t describe why? That’s how I love Bessie Mae."

Such a beautiful and fondly given name he had for her- Bessie Mae. This friendship was one of a kind.
Their unique relationship and the beauty and innocence is mostly seen in 1951's A place in the sun'( Before other tragedies hit their lives, that seemed the age of innocence).

In the 40s, and the 5os, she seemed to be at her peak. Young, vivacious and also considered one of the most beautiful woman in the world, who was also a good actress- a great combo. It was before all the issues her personal life, many marriages, illnesses and so on. He seemed to be carefree to before his accident and other pressures which caused him immense pain for the rest of his short life.

Richard Burton once reportedly told Clift though she was married to him( and others), that his wife loved him more. It was a unique, beautiful friendship.

The two of them depicted the loveliness of romance so beautifully on screen. They had such convetional natural beauty and talent, it's difficult to take one's eyes off the screen when they acted together...Gosh...now I would be the age of Clift's granddaughter if he ever had one( Dame Taylor already had some grand children that age) and I say that...

Now the Grand dame of the golden age has passed on too. There ain't much of that kind of magic in the pictures( that was the more favorite word back then) any more. The Golden age when people used to tell simple stories on screen without much technical razzmatazz is indeed over.

Really don't see such poise, grace, class, natural beauty( without the help of plastic surgeries, botox, collagen etc) much anymore. Black and white pictures have a charm of their own, which can never wane for people like me.

It's really truly sad...

But the legacy lives on...More so in the hearts of true blue classic movie lovers.

Su legado sigue vivo...

His brother's keeper

If a man can bridge the gap between life and death, if he can live on after he's dead, then maybe he was a great man.” -James Dean, American actor

The actor, called America's beloved rebel lived up to these words in just 24 years and so did a very few others...some for a cause...

So did our modern India's youth icon, Mumbai 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He didn't need to give up his life at 31( and he looked younger, his fitness level & pure heart probably made him look so), almost 3 and half months short of his 32nd birthday.

He would have been 34 on March 15. Just 34. People who understand and well wishers of his family he was still around. Much like how his father said,"he would have done so much more for India even if he had got 10 years more.

Oh God, wondered many times why he had to do this for a country whee people- young and old give much more undue attention to celebs from films, cricket, even politics & the corporate world.

On Fev 21,2011, an Indian High court had confirmed the death sentence on the lone surviving terrorist of the dastardly attack. A famous modern Indian female writer and columnist said how India was caught up more with the world cup and that except for the survivors & victims' and martyrs' families, the country has moved on. Sad, because that's the country a few like him sacrificed( beyond words & small deeds) so much for ...

That's why it's such a hard question( of why he and some others like him give their precious lives), but the simple good man will always be alive in the hearts of the simple good folks...

His youthful heart always was good to them and now kids love him too and know him more...

The prayer some fans prayed for him online. It was used in 'Pulp Fiction' and hence popular....
Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherd the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.'

May God keep blessing his wonderful parents and family always.

P.S It was great to know about the sweet little birthday celebration at his Bangalore(India) home. It's the start but it's nice that his parents and well wishers are doing quite a bit to keep the alive...
